The brief was to reimagine a physical space of my choosing and to then create a visual identity for a brand operating in that space that communicates its change of use. I will be creating a skate park brand inside of a decommissioned wind tunnel north of Bedford town. The brands mission is to help combat youth boredom locally, keeping them out of trouble, as well as to provide jobs to local villagers. The brands target audience is aimed at 16 – 22-year-olds who have an interest in skating but nowhere to learn, as well as 20 – 30 year olds who probably already skate. The brand is called Eight By Eight with the brand representing how when people come together, we can multiply into something greater than before though each other’s help. For the brands visual identity, it communicates its sense of community and its focus on the sport itself. For my art direction, I took inspiration from the building’s industrial architecture, and sense of motion that come from the idea of fan blades in the wind tunnel. The brands typography uses a grid and is contemporary yet functional, whilst the accompanying 3D visual elements represented the act of movement as well as featuring lots of blades bringing the design together, representing collaboration.
